HOUSING WORKS ANNOUNCES GROUNDBREAKER AWARDS DINNER HONOREES AND PARTICIPATING DESIGN ON A DIME DESIGNERS
New York, New York - Housing Works’ announced today the list of participating designers for its annual benefit, Design on a Dime, which is held at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. The event, which will take place April 26 - 28th, brings together Interior Designers and crucial fundraising to support Housing Works’ lifesaving services for New Yorkers. Event guests will have the opportunity to shop over $2million worth of furniture, homewares, art, and more at 50-80% off retail prices.
On the evening before the sale opens, April 25th, the Annual Groundbreaker Awards Dinner will honor community members who are leading the fight to end HIV/AIDS and have been unbelievable supporters of LGBTQ civil rights. This year’s Groundbreaker honorees are Robert Chavez, President and CEO, Hermès USA, who is receiving the Hearst Design Group’s Heart of Design Award, Javier Muñoz, Actor, Singer and Activist and Bunny Williams, Interior Designer and Founder of Bunny Williams Inc. Dinner chairs include, Sandra Lee, Jeffrey Seller, Josh Lehrer and Linda
Wells.

Design on a Dime kicks off with a ticketed opening night reception on April 26 which includes a VIP preview hour (5:30 PM) and general admission (6:30 PM) at which time the sale will begin allowing guests to shop each room vignette with discounts up to 80% off. In attendance will be Founding Chair James Huniford; Co-Chairs Alessandra Branca and Newell Turner; and Social Chair & Official Facinator, Douglas Friedman. Following the Opening Night will be two public sale days with free admission for the public on April 27 from 10am - 7pm and April 28 from 10am - 5pm.
This year’s event features a special spotlight on the vibrant design community of Houston, Texas, featuring several designers from this region. Their involvement coincides with Texas Design Week Houston, and participation in Housing Works’ Design on a Dime will raise awareness about HIV/AIDS in Texas. Texas has one of the highest population of people living with HIV in the country, and end to the AIDS epidemic in the US will hinge upon an end to new infections in southern states, and Texas, specifically.
Proceeds from Design on a Dime and the Groundbreaker Awards support Housing Works’ mission to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS. The organization provides thousands of New Yorkers with lifesaving health services and housing. They are heavily involved with advocacy efforts to ensure social justice and healthcare for Americans in need.
The event is sponsored by Hearst Design Group, Benjamin Moore, Gilead Sciences, The Points Guy, New York Design Center, A+E Networks, Sotheby’s Home, and Home Polish.

Founded in 2004 in New York City by renowned designer James Huniford, this one-of-a-kind benefit brings together top interior designers to create unique, jaw-dropping vignettes using donated merchandise from top brands, artists, and makers. Starting Opening Night, items in the vignettes are then sold for up to 80% off retail to savvy and stylish attendees.

The Groundbreaker Awards Dinner brings together Housing Works’ closest friends and supporters for a celebratory evening to honor outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to the fight to end HIV/AIDS and homelessness. Set among the stunning room vignettes, guests will get an exclusive sneak peek at the Design on a Dime creations. Most importantly, this evening will raise vital funds to bolster housing expansion efforts throughout the city, providing hundreds of New Yorkers a solid foundation from which to build a successful future.
