Dr. Pierre Richard Arty Named Housing Works’ First Chief Psychiatric Officer

Dr. Arty will lead all behavioral health efforts as need for mental health services skyrockets

NEW YORK – Housing Works today named Dr. Pierre Richard Arty as the organization’s first Chief Psychiatric Officer. Dr. Arty will lead the organization’s behavioral health work and efforts to promote employee and community wellness within Housing Works. He most recently served as Housing Works’ Director of Psychiatry and has been with the organization for six years while maintaining a private practice for two decades.

The Covid-19 pandemic has heightened the need for mental health services across New York City and the country, making even more clear that Housing Works needed a mental health expert and practitioner in senior leadership. Since the pandemic hit, Housing Works has adapted its services, including opening a temporary emergency housing facility for Covid-positive New Yorkers experiencing homelessness. Dr. Arty has been a critical member of the team as Housing Works has worked to provide the highest-quality care to our clients while ensuring their and our staff members’ safety.

Dr. Pierre Richard Arty has served as Housing Works’ Director of Psychiatry since 2016 and before that provided clinical guidance to the organization’s Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners for two years. Before coming to Housing Works, Dr. Arty spent eight years at St. Vincent’s Services, ultimately as Clinical Medical Director. Prior to that role he served as the Deputy Executive Director, Behavioral Health at Kings County Hospital Center. Dr. Arty received his M.D. from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn and his B.A. from Columbia College of Columbia University. He is Board Certified in Addiction Medicine.
